It Worked!
I liked my zine experiment so much I decided to repeat it!
Here’s what you can expect from the Writing is Magic zine:
Writing updates on my WIP
Cute, story inspired graphics
Handmade ads for things I think are great
Hopefully a new issue every month, but history has not shown that to be likely
Let me know what you think in the comments!

Ahhh, I loved this month’s zine!!! The topics you choose are so fascinating.
“I’m finding I like that it’s kind of problematic… because I find a little bit of ethical dilemma can add extra dimension to plot and character.”
Couldn’t agree more (except, of course, problematic is 100% my catnip, lol)! I love the ethical messiness of the “heat” trope. It’s a big part of why I’ve written it a few times now, and have quite a few more stories in the works involving it.
It works incredibly well with more or less good characters because it forces them to grapple with how they can ethically navigate consent in such a gray area. And the opportunities for drama are endless.
I hadn’t heard of the “Spanish Fly” trope, but looking it up, it’s definitely a thing in some speculative dark fiction I’ve read. Especially dark omegaverse (think substances to induce heat). It sounds like a darker, scarier approach to the forced arousal trope.
Anyway, more power to the story-juggling writers (have you read K Webster’s book, Paused to Prolific?). Looking forward to your next zine!
